What is Good Programming Practice? -- Mfoxwell 04:22, 2 May 2012 (CDT)

We think that GPP includes

  • Layout and style
  • In program documentation such as headers and comments
  • Self documenting programs (for example by meaningful variable names or dataset names that make following the program easier)
  • Robust programming
  • Coding for unexpected or extreme values
  • Coding for different platforms
  • Avoiding log messages that indicate errors or warnings that the expected result may not have been obtained.
